Beecroft Gallery Southend: #thelockdownexhibition

Physically displaying work made in lockdown. During this time my work took a liking to lino print and as a result, I lino-printed into anything I could get my hands on. The DIY nature of the process suited my art practice well - and I have all the time in the world to learn the new skill set.

While the results are clearly hand-rendered it was important to my body of work that the text followed my ACComplte4 font to uniformity and recognisability. With practice (and a fair few back-to-front letters in the early days) I got there.

The text in the art was not over through and came from my feelings at the time. Simplistic and hopefully ones that would resonate with others.

CAS Online Summer Exhibition

See the exhibition here: Online Exhibition | Colchester Art Society

Read on to learn more about my submission.

Wanting to show some of my new work I settled on my plaster letter tiles which follow the rest of my DIY art practice and ACcomplete4 font.

Picking text of the outcome was more difficult, as usual, my work responds to the site that it is shown in and with an online exhibition there is no physical site to play with.

To overcome this I decided to work with generic wording or phrases that we might use every day in different contexts.

Two of the rejected outcomes included the below - 'and', 'so what'

I rejected these as they felt too negative and angst-y. Instead, I went for the more positive 'go on'

The exhibition runs online until 31st July, 2021.
