Testing colours with varnish
The purpose of the varnish is to make the artwork weathertight, as I want to have the option of displaying the work outside as well as inside. However, the issue that I am facing is that the varnish changes the colour of the work, making it far darker - see the purple example below.

This means that the colouring of the work becomes off and doesn't work with other artworks that might be displayed with it. This is not an issue for the black letters but I want the option to use colour within the work.
I am currently deciding which is more important the weathertight element or the colour. Should the letters just be black? This would solve both issues.
I like to create works that can be re-used and re-purposed and I worry that if these works are left outside for any period of time they would become unusable due to the string used within them becoming wet and weathered.
As I am unsure of the final outcome for these, these early decisions are more difficult. I usually like to work with a site in mind, but with this project, I am working the other way around.
